Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

Whilst creating my music video because I had watched the video I was using, it had influenced the way I made it, although I didn't use any of the movements that was used in the video it did help me give it a structure. I also had to make it kind of similar to target my specific audience.
I conducted research in to Beyonce's music videos to see how she made them there was three songs in particular I then done a survey to my target audience to see which song they liked more the majority of the vote went to 7/11. I liked how the video was a series of movements rather than having an actual narrative to it.

I decided for my own piece I would do the same it was performance based and not narrative I decided that I didn't really like narrative and that my target audience would find a performance based one much better.
My music video challenges conventions by being performance based and not narrative some theorists argue that all music videos have a structure and a narrative but mine doesn't because it's just a series of movements. Some audiences would enjoy a narrative based video as there is a story to be told with it as mine is just performance based it's a lot more entertaining.

These are my references I used for my video. The first one is 7/11, the song I actually chose to base my video around and the other video is Grown Woman. Both videos are mainly just a series of movements but Grown Woman had a bit more of structure to it, this why I came to chose 7/11 because I didn't feel like a narrative would appeal to my target audience.

I do believe that in some ways my music video does challenge the conventions but also develops the use of the coventions also. I have kept a mid shot all the way through my video but varied in the ways I took the images for my ancillary tasks.

Backcover Digipak work

This is my logo that I have put on the back of my digipak, I also have my logo on the front of my digipak I decided i wanted it on both so it's more recognising 

This is my track list for my album, as this is a woman empowering album I decided these where really good songs to use. I have taken a selection of songs off different Beyonce albums and followed a similar kind of house style for her album.

I have decided to add at the top track list the majority of albums don't have this convention but I decided that I liked how it looked.

I have also put a barcode in place which is a key convention of a digipak.

Background of CD

I have decided I wanted a picture of the artist for CD background, i chose this image because I really liked the image and the way she looks on, I feel that this is a really woman empowering and really fits with my theme.

Finished Digipak front cover

This is my finished front cover of my digipak, I have included the artists name, I have my logo in place so my target audience recognises that It's my brand I also have an album name in place. I chose the call my album the same name as the video.

Working on the poster

 I have kept the same font from my digipak when creating my advertisement so the audience will recognise the artist.

 I have involved social media platforms so the audience can reach the artist on more than one platform

 I have once again used my logo to create synergy, this will make my brand recognisable to my audience.

This is the information for the advertisement, I have included the date that match the one on my poster, what the album is available on and some of the singles that feature on the album so my audience will recognise the songs.

I have now created a logo for my brand, It's just a basic logo that is made up of an S and M, as my production company is called Smyth Media, I have added a logo so my target audience can recognise my brand.

Question 3- What have you learned from your audience feedback, PLAN

I put my ancillary tasks on to social media. These are some pieces of feedback I got:
I was mainly told that my images looked really professional and people really liked them. They liked the style of the images. The main problem with my piece was that the text was really clear on my poster and not my digipak and people struggled to be able to read what it said, so I then went back to my digipak and added in a drop shadow on all of my text to make it stand out more.


My target audience was mainly for females but can be aimed at males as well aged 16-30. I chose this specific category as me and my friends fall within this, so this made it easier to create my piece of work because I was basically catering a piece for myself.

I also asked people to watch my video and give me feedback, the majority of the people I asked really liked the piece and the performance that went with it they also liked how I had used a green screen which made it possible for me to be able to use a variety of different backgrounds. I also asked a girl who was younger than my target audience what she thought and she didn't like all the different backgrounds as she didn't understand there wasn't a narrative to the piece.

I have to go back into my video and do some more cropping as in some of the shots you could still see bits of the green screen and my audience did pick up on this. I also had to add a drop shadow on all of my text.

Working on the digipak

This is the image I decided to use for my front cover, I have chose this image as I feel it is very eye catching, the outfit the artist is wearing is quite different to something that you would see someone wearing everyday. I decided I didn't want my artist to make direct mode of address, I decided I wanted her to look away. I decided to chose the pose that she is in because I feel like it's a empowering position and I feel this was necessary as I was choosing Beyonce song.

This is the image I have decided to use for my back page of my digipak, I have decided to use this because the pose is still empowering but more subtle than the front cover, I decided to keep the same outfit for this and use the other pictures for the poster. I really liked this pose and the background that went with the image and I feel it would look really good with the text with the tracks on the album.

Front page of my digpak

This is how I have structured how I'm going to have my artists name, I decided to use black as the colours in the picture are quite neutral so the black stands out from the background, I then decided to add a drop shadow on the text also just to make sure it stood out that little bit more. I really liked the style of font I chose, at first I was experimenting with cursive text but then I decided it would be more appealing to my target audience as a simple text sometimes stands out more than a more fancy kind of text.

Looking at track lists

I decided to look at a few different albums in terms of how they structure their track lists.

This is Beyonce's latest album back page, what I particularly like about this is how the background is all one colour and then the songs are written in pink even thought I have decided to have an image in my background I still really like the way this has been structured especially the way the songs have been written.

This is another one of Beyonce's album pages, in this one she has used another image of herself, I also like the direction she's looking, I also really like how she's structured her text so it looks like it's written on the wall, I prefer that there is in image on this digipak but I prefer the text on the first one.

Photo shoot Planning

I've arranged a photo shoot with one of my dancers who is mainly featured in my video a lot for my digipak and magazine advertisement, this will take place on the 19th March, until then I am going to continue working on my music video. The shoot will take place in the Liverpool garden festival and the dips down in New Brighton.

Technical Difficulties

I am still unable to download my footage as another group has allowed the camera to fully die and I am now unable to get any of my footage because It's the only camera the accepts the tapes so I now have to  wait until a new camera has been ordered.

Camera

Due to other people using the camera for the entire duration of the week I am unable to upload the footage I obtained at this moment in time so for the rest of this week I'm going to continue working on what I've already been working on iMovie and putting the final things in place.

Obtaining Footage

I managed to contain a solid amount of footage for my video with the green screen but there was a problem in terms of the dancers dancing infront of it because you couldn't see any of their footwork and  for what I had already been putting in place it was mainly their footwork I used so I'm defiantly going to need to put another rehearsal in place.

Arrangements for tomorrow

Everything is going ahead still for tomorrow and everything is available for me to use. The Green Screen is being set up tomorrow and the camera will be charged and ready for me to take straight away.

Fridays arrangements

I went and seen Karl and booked the green screen for Friday at 12:15 and I spoke to Mrs Riley to book the lecture theatre, all three of the girls are available so the plan seems to be that I'm able to use the green screen and the lecture theatre. I'm also going to take some pictures as well for my magazine advertisement and for my digipak.

Plan for this week.

My plan for this week is to re-record three of the dancers that I used in my draft footage I used these dancers more as I liked their sections a lot more so I decided it would be easier to just record them for now with different types of shots and angles. I need to see when the Lecture Theatre and the Green screen are available and see if the girls can fit in to that time schedule.

Putting this in place

This is the editing that I have began to put in place none of this footage will probably be used once I've put more rehearsals in place and obtained better footage with a better background area as the background I've used here doesn't look good at all and looks really unprofessional.

Working on Editing

Even though that this is mainly just rehearsal footage I've started editing the footage and putting things in place and working out exactly where everything is going until I'm able to work out exactly when I am able to record again, book the hall or the black box studio and also to see if the green screen is available.

First Rehearsal

I've just finished my first rehearsal and it went extremely well and we got the majority of the choreography done at first I thought I was being really ambitious in terms of pushing myself and them to get the footage done tomorrow but due to how well the rehearsal went I will defiantly be able to obtain some really good footage tomorrow.

Plans for tomorrow

My plans for tomorrow are that I need to borrow a camera and check if the hall stage is free as the black box studio isn't available and is barely ever free so there are only specific times that I can actually record up there and not everybody is free at that time. I also need to borrow a tripod so I can get some really got shots of the entire group dancing.

Working on the Digipak front cover

This is my front cover so far, I've used the girls name in bold and in a silver colour font because I used a gradient background it blends in very well and looks like it's coming out of the background. I've decided to call the album 7/11 also as when I look at some of my style models I'm looking at tend to take a song off their album and name their album that so that's what I've decided to do. I've also put the name of media production group in the corner as well to represent that I'm keeping the synergy throughout and on my magazine advertisement I will continue to add it in along with a logo when I actually make one. This is still not done there is still a lot I need to do on it I still need to take an image for the front cover I've been looking at a particular picture that I want to recreate which is the image below.

This is my image that I would like to recreate I like how up close the image is and it uses direct mode of address and it really grabs the target audiences eye. I also like how different parts of her face have been fragmented in to something different and certain sections have been edited in different effects. When I'm taking my images of my 'artist' I will mainly use this as my style model in terms of how it's been taken and the way it's been edited.




I still need to add a logo as well as I mentioned earlier on in the post because when we started again the logo we made took the name of someone else in our group so I have
to make a whole new logo now.

Survey Results

I done my survey and got back the results. 7/11 got the most results as 75% of the people voted this song. I'm quite glad that this was the song that was chosen as it is really upbeat and fast paced and it's so easy to work with in terms of choreography as well, my first rehearsal for the choreography is later on today for two hours and I would like to start recording some of the dance tomorrow.

Survey

As I am still undecided as to what song I am going to use I have decided that I am going to carry out a survey of people around my age group to see what they would prefer I am carrying out the survey later on today and I should have the results for tomorrow so for today I'm going to work on my digipak.

Costuming

As my video involves 5 girls I have asked each of them to wear black leggings a black top and a checkered shirt tied around their waste and they can wear either converse or boots, I have chosen this costuming because it sticks out to my target audience which is people around my age group and thats also the reason I decided to use 5 girls around my age group as well. By me having younger people in my video it will attract a younger age group.

Ideas For the Video

I have decided that I am going to use some of the A level dancer group to choreograph a number to one of the songs, I think I'm using the 7/11 song as that is the most upbeat and high energy out of the three. I'm going to start obtaining footage next week as rehearsals are needed first to start with choreography.

Looking into different artists

I have looked into a different range of artists I listen to and I have decided that I'm going to use one of Beyoncé's songs as her songs are quite upbeat and fast paced. The videos above are probably the final three I'm going to use for my final piece.

Another Change of Plan

Due to a large amount of group absences we have all decided that it would be best if we all decided to just work individually on our own pieces instead so now we are all back to square one. At this moment in time I'm not quite sure as to what I'm actually doing this moment in time I'm going to research in to some of the artists that I like and see where that leads me.
